They were seen, they were heard, and they were certainly hungry. The youth of Foxboro Seventh-Day Adventist Church took place in World Vision’s 30 Hour Famine on May 3rd and 4th in effort to raise money to combat world hunger and grow closer to God at the same time.
Just over $2,000 is was what the small but determined group raised. Door-to-door, home school networking, car washing, and church donations–this group took every opportunity to help make the world a less hungry place. “At first we thought we’d just ask our friends and family for donations,” explained 17-year-old Kristen Vogler of Easton. “But when we realized that wasn’t really bringing in enough, I decided to drive myself and some of the members of the group around to raise money going door-to-door,"
The group camped out overnight at the Church, staying up most of the night to decorate the church with the 29,000-link paper chain they had been working on since February.
Each link served to represent the 29,000 children who die everyday from “preventable diseases such as malnutrition, malaria, diarrhea, and acute respiratory infections,” as reported on World Vision’s Hunger Fact Sheet.
On the global front, 600,000 young people last year reportedly raised over $11.6 million dollars in correspondence with the 30 Hour Famine. The money goes to help needing people of countries like Uganda, Malawi, Sri Lanka, Niger, and Guatemala.
